Rope Access Technician Training
An industrial rope access technician course covering movement on rope, work-position setup, and rescue procedures.
Overview
This course is designed for people who carry out work that is accessed and left using ropes, where other access methods — scaffolding, MEWPs — are unsuitable or impractical. The programme follows the level structure used in industrial rope access technician training, from basic movement skills through to independent work-site setup and rescue.

Programme content
Equipment familiarisation and inspection
Pre-use inspection of harnesses, ropes, connectors, ascenders and descenders.
Movement and positioning
Techniques for ascending, descending and moving horizontally on rope, and setting up the work site.
Rigging systems
Setting up working and safety lines, and selecting anchor points.
Rescue
Procedures for rescuing a colleague on rope in a range of emergency scenarios.
Requirements for participants
- Minimum age of 18
- Good physical condition (Chester Step Test recommended)
- Medical certificate confirming fitness for work at height
- For higher levels — the required number of logged working days
Certification
On successful completion of the course and the exam, a certificate for the relevant level is issued, valid for 3 years.
