GWO BST Manual Handling
A module on safe manual lifting, carrying and handling of loads, reducing the risk of injury in the wind energy sector.
Overview
This course teaches participants to correctly assess the weight and shape of a load, choose the appropriate lifting technique, and use assistive equipment to avoid back and musculoskeletal injuries.
Particular attention is given to lifting in confined spaces — inside the turbine tower and nacelle.

- All wind farm employees who handle loads
- Warehouse and logistics staff
- New employees without experience in ergonomic lifting
Programme content
Risk assessment
Assessing the weight, shape and lifting environment of a load before starting work.
Lifting technique
Principles of correct body posture and movement when lifting and carrying loads.
Team lifting
Cooperation and communication principles for lifting heavy or non-standard loads together.
Requirements for participants
- Minimum age of 18
- No health restrictions for physical work
Certification
On completion of the course, participants are issued a GWO BST Manual Handling certificate, registered in the GWO WINDA database. Valid for 24 months.
